Dressage from the French "Dresseur" - To Train. As the Dressage Horse progresses, it requires adequite progress in bridle & tack, mainly the dressage bridles and dressage bits. There are different varients of Bridles in the sport. However, most bridles fall under the following dressage tack & bridle catagories: Dressage Snaffle Bridle, Dressage Flash Bridle, Dressage Drop Noseband Bridle and Dressage Double / Weymouth Bridles. From these four Bridles stem varients to meet the needs of a Dressage Horse.

Dressage Snaffle Bridle
The Snaffle Bridle is the most common of the Dressage Bridle. Dressage snaffle bridle can be configured with two Caveson options, the Standard Dressage Caveson and the Crank Dressage Caveson. The Standard Dressage Caveson can be worn loose or tight fitting to assist in keeping the horses mouth shut in the mid section of the jaw. The Dressage Crank Caveson allows for the same option, but the leverage system on the lower part of the Caveson allows for more pressure to be applied at the mid jaw level.

Dressage Flash Bridle
The Flash Snaffle Bridle is also as common as the Dressage Standard Snaffle Bridle. The difference is the inclusion of a flash strap to the Caveson. This attachment to the Dressage Caveson allows for the noseband to be secured tightly, but also adds leverage to the front of the horses mouth in front of the bit and directly behind the chin. This varient of the Dressage Snaffle Bridle also comes with an option of a Dressage Crank Noseband as well.

Dressage Drop Noseband Bridle
The Drop Noseband Bridle is also a Dressage Snaffle Bridle. The Drop Noseband is a thinner noseband that drops in front of the bit and only keeps the horses mouth closed at the front directly behind the chin. This relieves the pressure applied by Dressage Crank Nosebands and Dressage Standard Caveson Nosebands for those horses which are sensative to pressure being applied to the mid jaw area, yet require assistance in keeping their mouth closed.

Dressage Weymouth / Double Bridle
The Weymouth Bridle is also referred to as the Dressage Double Bridle. This Bridle comes with a Standard Caveson or the option of a Dressage Crank Caveson. The double bit system used in the upper levels of dressage require an extra strap known as a bradoon strap for the accommodation of the bradoon bit to the curb bit and the extra set of reins to accommodate both bits.
